Workpackage 7: Pilot study

Start date or starting event month 15
Participants FAC VTI RUG UNIROMATRE CDV

1. Objectives

A pilot-study at a specially selected site will be carried out to test the usability of the toolbox for LQ-assessment, the databank (on a conceptual basis) and the guidelines for implementation. Of course, the central element of this pilot study will be the evaluation of problem solutions that are based on results of the LQ-assessment with the help of ASI-tools.

The specially selected site will be determined latest at the mid-term assessment.

The results of the pilot study will be discussed in a consortium meeting enriched with some external experts, with respect to implications of pilot-study results for the final products (WP9 and WP10)

2. Methodology / work description

Activity 1: The Pilot study will be carried out at a site which will be chosen together with the EU commission, viz. with representatives of the LUTR-cluster. The rough scheme of the pilot study:
  • Introduction of some central results of ASI so far in connection with a practical application (e.g., elements to the advantage of different road user groups, like longer crossing times for pedestrians, speed-reducing measures at intersections etc. etc.) → part of toolbox
  • Interviews with experts on the site in order to display their expectations for different implementations → part of toolbox
  • Interviews before and after implementation with minimum size groups for local statistical evaluation = ~30 members of different road user groups → part of toolbox
  • Application of objective parameters like speeds, flows, etc., according to traffic-engineering principles (speed changes etc.) → part of toolbox
  • Testwise establishment of a databank ("embryo")
  • Evaluation of results

Activity 2: Group work: Presentation of pilot-study results; discussion of results in order to establish implications of pilot-study and to elaborate on ideas and recommendations for the final products (plenum and small group work)
